If you are interested in getting dairy cattle experience, the world-renowned Mason Dixon Dairy Farm is only 20 minutes away from us! Internships are highly competitive, but it never hurts to try! Gettysburg students have been accepted in the past, and from all accounts it is a fantastic experience.
A four week summer program at Oatridge College, Scotland (right outside of Edinburgh). You take two classes: Equine Anatomy & Physiology, and Equine Fitness, as well as riding classes where you "discover equestrianism British style, and experience both classical and English-style riding skills". No previous equestrian experience is required.
I know it is pretty far from us, but they have tons of opportunities- not just the 6 and 8 week programs, but also one and two week externships. There are Gettysburg Alumni in the area who are willing to help with housing, so that as well can be worked out. It is an incredible place.
Hanover Shoe Farms is the largest Standardbred (horse) breeding facility in the world. Located just 20 minutes from campus, we have had many students who have worked and shadowed there. Every Spring we offer ride-alongs with the resident veterinarians, and there externship opportunities available over breaks and a competitive Summer internship program.
